Sunday In NYC

I went to Soho today to visit Purl Soho. There's a lovely casual flow of crowds through the streets in the middle of the afternoon. I so love the architecture in this part of the city.

I replaced these photos because the original post from mobile Blogger published really low resolution photos. Anybody know how to change that?

Infinite Variety & QuiltAlbum Blog Hop

Oh my! So much time has passed since my last post but so much has been going on. Let's just start with yesterday. I was fortunate to be able to see "Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts" that is an amazing exhibit put on by the Folk Art Museum in New York City. It's over tomorrow but if you can, make your way there. It is AWESOME!!

I got up early and headed into the city via the Holland Tunnel. I parked at my usual spot and started downtown toward the Henry Glass offices. Along the way, I met these snazzy shoes. I love them.

There's something about beautiful leather men's shoes. I know I'm weird that way. I get inspired by everything around me.

Bryant Park and the Empire State Building in the morning.

I'm finally at the offices in the garment district. Well, can you guess who I was meeting here? Why, that's Carrie Nelson from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. all the way from Arizona. We both look like the Michelin Man because it is still pretty darned cold here in NYC.

After some brainstorming in the conference room, we headed out for lunch. By the way, her new line is gorgeous.

Carrie and I headed over to Brendan's for lunch with Larry, Karen and Lenny from Henry Glass.

Forgive for pulling out my camera at lunch but I love architecture and the ceiling at Brendan's is to die for. The food is amazing too! I had the pan-seared scallops with feta cheese salad. Yummy!

Afterward, Carrie and I took a cab up to the Park Avenue Armory to see the show.

The building itself is impressive! Again, beautiful architecture and detailing.

This is the entrance to the show. It is beautiful but it doesn't quite prepare you for what's inside.

This is only part of the exhibit but what a view. The quilts are hung all the way to the top of this 8 story structure.

We chatted with Jennifer Keltner and Elizabeth Tisinger of Better Homes & Gardens [American Patchwork & Quilting].

I didn't manage to beat the traffic so we decided to head down to Purl Soho and Kate's Paperie

It was a beautiful day and one that is hard to describe in pixels and text but I am inspired to the core.  I will show you some more photographs here, on Facebook or Flickr in the next few days.

Meanwhile, I can't forget the fun event that just started today. I've been invited to share QuiltAlbum with you. My day will be tomorrow. Please come back for a little bit of fun with this terrific program. Each day there will be one giveaway for a CD or download of the program! How exciting!

Day Out In New York

I had a terrific Mother's Day. We went to NYC for the day and the weather was fantastic. I made a little stop along the way. I love Habu Textiles and I bought a few little things there. More on this later this week.
Here in the city everyday little things provide inspiration. One thing that I did notice was the color yellow. Of course, the taxi cabs are yellow but so are the sports cars and the dancers just across the street from The Plaza!

Banners, and window displays were yellow and there were many "bee" inspired images around. Do you think that there's a trend here?

I did love this blue dress though.

And this blue? Oh so calm but fresh. Notice the yellow again.

Nintendo is onto this "blue" trend too. My kids were mesmerized by this Lego version of the new Nintendo dsi in the window at Nintendo World.

Hello, Mr. Horse. I love the red flower on your head. There's another carriage painted with the same beautiful red color.

The red, cherry-flavored ice cream dip is yummy!!

I got to spend the day with my guys!

p.s. Happy birthday to my big guy, Reno.

Inspiration For A Day

I was working in Manhattan yesterday. I love going into the city but I wouldn't want to do it everyday. For one thing, the daily four hours that it would take me to commute back and forth would kill me. I have friends who do it daily. That's why holidays are great. Yesterday it was Columbus Day. So, while there was still some traffic, most of it was smooth sailing. It only took me 50 mins. from door to door.

The fabric company is located in a great place in the heart of the garment district. Right around the corner of the offices are two of my favorite stores, Tinsel Trading and M&J Trimming. The ribbons, trims and other little decorative things are so special.

Right outside of the office building where Henry Glass is located, is a gorgeous flower shop. I can't remember the name of it but it is at 37th and 6th Ave. The colors are gorgeous aren't they? Sorry the photos are lousy. I can't believe that I forgot my camera! I had to use the one on my phone.

When we were finished lunch and the meeting, there was a lot of traffic from the finish of the Columbus Day Parade so I decided to walk a couple of blocks to Kinokuniya. Don't you just love the cover of this one?

I only got a quick glance of the books because I started feeling sick [I've been battling a bad cold all week] and I also had to leave by 4 p.m. or else I'd get stuck in traffic.

I just love the buzz that I feel when I go into the city. It's refreshing and invigorating. Everything's within a few blocks of each other so it's like a major shot of creative adrenaline.

Oh, the grittiness is pretty cool too. xo,L
